Anchored in Service

Anchor Splash: Our philanthropy is the second largest fundraiser that takes place among Greek Life on the Oregon State University campus. The week-long event consists of a check-ins competition in the Memorial Union Quad where sorority and fraternity members from participating chapters compete to have the most members check in and donate the most change. Each day there is a way to win extra points for each chapter such as answering an awareness question regarding Service for Sight.

On the Tuesday of Anchor Splash week, it’s time for the synchronized swimming competition, by far the most exciting event within OSU Greek Life! Each participating chapter is given the opportunity to perform a routine and participate in fun and creative swimming relay races where they earn points when they win or place in one of the events. Each team is assigned a Delta Gamma coach to encourage and assist them.

On Wednesday, each participating chapter visits  Delta Gamma and works with the members to make care packages for veterans.

Thursday, the final day of the philanthropy, is the Mr. and Mrs. Anchor Splash Pageant. A nominee from each team participates in a talent pageant with a question and answer point section, It is at this pageant that the winning chapter is announced with the titles of Mr. and Mrs. Anchor Splash, as well as the overall winning chapter that earned the most points.

Anchor Slam: Anchor Slam is a one-day philanthropy dodgeball tournament, open to everyone, both in and outside of Greek Life. Delta Gammas referee during each game and make signs for all thirty teams. While a smaller event compared to Anchor Splash, in 2018 we raised almost $3,000.

Pizza and Puppies: This one-day fundraiser was new to our Delta Gamma chapter this year. Held in our chapter parking lot, a fun banner and music welcomed attendees, along with pizza, cookies and lemonade served by Delta Gammas. The highlight was puppies in training and dogs from Guide Dogs for the Blind that helped raise awareness about Service for Sight. We raised over $1,000 from this fundraiser, and hope to continue expanding it, as it combined some of our favorite things: pizza and puppies!
